Emotion

often weighs heavily upon us. In this work, I visualized emotion as a solid mass, a weighted “box” that dominates the center of the canvas. The deep blue cube, with its rigid exterior, conceals a storm of unspoken, unexpressed feelings within.

The dismembered limbs—arms and legs protruding from the box—suggest a state of being trapped or crushed by emotion. It symbolizes the inner truth that is suppressed, or emotions we long to release but cannot. By revealing only parts of the human body, I aim to convey how emotion permeates our daily lives—partially, yet powerfully—and how it creates a constant tension between helplessness and resistance.

The color palette emphasizes this duality. The surrounding darkness contrasts with the glowing blue box, evoking both beauty and suffering, liberation and confinement.

This piece is an exploration of how unseen emotions can both oppress and define us. The box of emotion exists within everyone, and perhaps, we are all beings who carry it with us—silently, endlessly.

감정

보이지 않지만 언제나 우리를 지배하는 ‘감정’은 때로는 너무나 커다란 무게로 다가온다. 이 작업에서 나는 감정을 하나의 덩어리, 혹은 무게감 있는 ‘상자’로 형상화했다. 화면 중앙의 푸른빛의 큐브는 단단한 외피를 가지고 있지만, 그 안에는 말로 다 표현할 수 없는 감정의 소용돌이가 감춰져 있다.

상자에 파묻힌 인체의 일부 — 팔과 다리는 감정에 의해 짓눌리거나 갇힌 듯한 상태를 보여준다. 그것은 억눌린 감정, 혹은 꺼내고 싶지만 꺼낼 수 없는 내면의 진실을 상징한다. 신체의 일부분만 드러낸 구성은 감정이 인간의 일상을 얼마나 부분적이면서도 지배적으로 관통하는지를 암시하며, 동시에 감정에 대한 무력감과 저항 사이의 긴장을 표현하고자 했다.

색채는 어두운 배경 속에서 상자의 푸른 빛이 묘한 존재감을 드러내도록 구성했으며, 이는 감정의 이중성 — 아름다움과 고통, 해방과 억압 — 을 동시에 담아내기 위함이다.

이 작품은 감정이라는 보이지 않는 실체가 어떻게 인간을 억누르기도 하고, 해방시키기도 하는지를 탐구하는 시도이다. 이 상자 속의 감정은 누구에게나 있을 수 있으며, 어쩌면 우리는 모두 이 감정의 상자를 끌어안고 살아가는 존재일지도 모른다.
